The CVRC Undergraduate Student Fellowship Program supported a vibrant undergraduate student internship for 10 weeks throughout the summer of 2022. The Cardiovascular Research Center received numerous applications from undergraduate students to take part in this hands-on cardiovascular research during the summer months in active laboratories throughout the School of Medicine and Public Health. We carefully reviewed their research proposals and selected 4 outstanding Seniors at UW Madison:
- Carolina de Medeiros Vieira, Valentina Lo Sardo Lab, is studying Molecular and Cellular Biology and is working to understand the genetics of coronary artery disease in African Americans.
- Caitlyn Se, Bo Liu Lab, with her experience as a nursing assistant in the Heart and Vascular Progressive Care Unit, hopes to become a cardiologist and to continue exploring the social determinants of cardiovascular diseases.
- Owen Han, Alexey Glukhov Lab, is working to precisely determine the vulnerable regions of the heart in atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm).
- Anthony Ross, Carter Ralphe Lab, is studying the use of stem cells to address cardiomyopathy (difficulty for the heart to pump blood through the system). (not pictured)
