CVRC Training Program Application Process

Year 20 (September 1 2020 – August 31 2021)

Application for Predoctoral Candidates

The UW Cardiovascular Research Center’s Training Program in Translational Cardiovascular Science (TPTCS) announces the availability of predoctoral trainee positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for individuals whose research interests align with cardiovascular science. This is a federally funded (NIH/NHLBI) T32 training program. Predoctoral research training is for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in a doctoral program leading to a PhD or a comparable research doctoral program. Start dates for predoctoral appointments are flexible, but cannot begin before September 1, 2020. Preference will be given to students entering their 2nd year of graduate school or later, but all are encouraged to apply.  Funding may be renewed for a second year depending on availability of funds and evidence of research progress. Full tuition is paid by the training program while the student is a trainee.

The UW Cardiovascular Research Center houses a wide range of cardiovascular science research. The focus areas of this training program are heart failure/contractility, ion channels/arrhythmia, and vascular biology/atherosclerosis.

The prospective trainee must be enrolled in a degree-granting program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison by the time the award begins. Candidates may be nominated by a TPTCS mentor/trainer or faculty member associated with the UW Cardiovascular Research Center. Conversely, trainees with interests in cardiovascular research may encourage their supervisors to apply to become a mentor/trainer in the program. Additional information on the CVRC training program may be accessed at the training grant website.

Trainees must be US citizens or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence to the US to be considered for this training grant. Members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
